I will outline what makes these particular binocs so unique.... 1. TFOV - 6.5 Degrees. TFOV = True Field of View - in visual optics this defines how much of the scene (subject) is visible inside the image circles you view through the binocs. The greater the TFOV is, the easier to locate subjects you are seeking. (such as finding wildlife that appears in the periphery part of the image circle) To be specific, the 6.5 degrees means, if you stood in the middle of a circle, and pointed the binocs to the circles circumference, you could see a 6.5 deg. "slice of the pie". It doesn't seem like much, because we can see approx. 110 degrees with our two unaided eyes, but the binocs offer 10x magnification, which is why we see such a small piece of the pie. A fellow on this trip had a massive set of Fujinon 16x40 Gyro-Stabilized binoculars that sell for nearly $6,000. We spent time comparing my Canon binoculars to his Fujinons. Optically there is NO comparison. The Canons, while not as superb optically as the best Leica binoculars, are awfully good. They are far brighter, much sharper, and more accurate in their color rendition than the Fujinons. The ONLY reason to spend an extra $4,500+ on the Fujinons is if you require the absolute best image stabilization that money can buy. When I saw a Image Stabilized binocular was available with "L" glass, (This is the symbol that Canon uses to identify their finest optics in camera lenses), I bought them immediately. These binoculars are a little bit heavier than a non stabilized pair, but the weight is easily compensated by the stabilizer. Put a camera on the front of my truck. Silly you may say.I looked far and wide for what seemed like a simple enough item to finally end up on this. My head unit can mirror the camera's image, and there are many backup cameras that come un-mirrored, but this was the only one that could be either which means I have matching front and rear cameras. The frame is very nice looking and the camera quality is better than the ~$20 cameras I purchased previously. It doesn't collect water in the lens like cheaper cameras and seems built to last. I assumed it was a plastic frame but it's a solid feeling metal material. Anyway, why the front camera? As any off-roader will tell you, cresting over hills can be quite a pain. Nikon was out of question due to the price range. Thats when my friend suggested the rokinon 8mm since its cheap too.A little more research and I found that Rokinon, Bower, Vivitar etc where all the Samyang product. When the lens arrived, I was impressed by the packaging provided by Bower, with the moulded plastic enclosure for protection and arresting movement. Even the Nikons and tamrons come in cardboard movement arresters which if due to any reason get wet, might fail to do their work. The second part is the compactness of the lens. Its small and hence its easy to maneuver the whole camera and lens for some overhead shots. Long exposure shots in a moving car at traffic signals give awesome results. Its a true 8mm lens for a APS-C sensor of Nikon. Canon's a little less but 167 degrees is good too. Great for panorama shots and perfect...
